The glacial Lake Tekapo is a remarkable blue, with an equally remarkable view of Mt Cook and the Southern Alps. Take in the views from the beautiful lake side town of Tekapo, the Church of the Good Shepherd or a scenic flight from the local airport. Apart from the scenery, Lake Tekapo holds a number of attractions. The statue of a sheepdog stands overlooking the lake and is tribute to the high country farmer’s most valued ally, the working sheepdog. Between Tekapo and Mt Cook, is the High Altitude Salmon Farm. Take a farm tour and catch your own dinner. Plenty of salmon can also be found in the local lakes and rivers. Snow sports; boating, waterskiing and golf are other leisure activities based in and around Lake Tekapo.
